How to use your PC to watch TV over the Internet

There are a lot of us who want to watch High Definition TV but unable or refuse to plunk hundreds of dollars on expensive HD TV sets and an HD TV subscription that has all of our favorite channels. Fortunately, we already have access to a relatively cheaper, and easier to setup alternative; instead of a living room HD TV setup, you can use your existing computer or laptop and a serviceable broadband connection to watch TV on your PC by streaming TV over the internet.

There are lots of computer-based Live TV services available on the Internet, and most of them are available at a fraction of the cost of a comparable satellite or cable TV service. Best of all, the infrastructure is already available in the PC you use to surf the Internet (note that this is different from having a TV tuner card installed in your pc. The broadcast signal uses your Internet connection instead of a coaxial cable), so you don’t have to deal with lengthy and troublesome installations. Setting up is as easy as installing a small computer program, a process that you can easily do by yourself. Whereas very few people have the ability to install a roof-mounted 8-foot satellite dish on their own.

To get you started, here are some of the best “watch TV on your pc” services I have come across:

  1. Free Satellite Network  - For the price of a single cup of coffee, Free Satellite Network will give you one year of unlimited access to 2500 channels that are premium and high quality. It is very common with other services to pad their channel numbers with unknown and throwaway channels but with Free Satellite Network, the channels are recognizable such as MTV, Comedy Central, Fox Sports, Adult Zone, and all the regular channels you expect to watch.

  2. PCShowbuzz  - PCShowbuzz is a relatively new, yet excellent service that will give you access to 1000 plus channels for a one-time payment of $30 US dollars. It’s a really big price difference from a normal cable TV subscription which could set you back as much as $300 yearly.

  3. DTV4PC  - DTV4PC, like PCShowbuzz, offers 1000 plus channels that comprise of news, sports, music videos, and movie channels from around the country and around the world. Aside from its channel offering, DTV4PC is also similar to PCShowbuzz because it does not use a monthly subscription model and priced at the same range.

Any of these four PC TV services can replace a thousand dollar High Definition TV set and subscription setup for a tiny portion of the cost. In fact, there is a big chance that the PC you’re using now is already capable and the only thing left for you to do is to visit the sites and sign up.
